The Advancement of Electronics

Electronic gadgets that we take for granted today began with the discovery of the electron back in the 19th century.

In the early 1900’s Edwin Howard Armstrong invented the superheterodyne receiver which is the basis for almost all modern radio and radar communication systems. Philo Taylor Farnsworth in 1922 invented an electronic television system. He received backing to form a company and by 1927 had displayed the first electronic television image. They are just two of the early pioneers of physics who did experiments that left a lot of questions unanswered but led to discoveries that have now become a technological revolution.

Today the list of electronic gadgets that we use every day is endless and some of these items include:

* The Digital Camcorder
The camera and video recorder combined, which is what a camcorder is has evolved from a big cumbersome item to a much more user- friendly, small and easy to carry electronic gadget that most people own. Why wait weeks or months to receive your copy of a wedding photo when you can film the whole event as well as taking professional, still photos. The camcorder has an internal memory that can store thousands of pictures. Create a masterpiece of those treasured memories.

The digital camcorder has the ability to record from a television (DVD player, VHS, Satellite etc) for as long as you have available memory. You can record your favourite TV shows and play them back on the go or play them back on the TV like a VCR with A/V wires. You can also back up your old VCR movies to digital. You can also transfer your videos to an SD memory card and download them to your computer. You can use the camcorder like an MP4 player and play back your saved video files on the go or play them back on the TV. It is also an MP3 player so you can listen to your favourite music or connect to your home stereo or external speakers. Have a real live video game experience and play different arcade style games.

The up to the minute digital camcorders are ultra slim-less than an inch thick and come with a webcam. Instead of talking to family or friends on the phone you can use the webcam. It’s like being in the same room with them.

* Spy Pen Camera

Imagine being able to record the movements of someone you wanted to spy on just by leaving a pen lying around.

Have fun at a party and record your friends’ antics without them knowing it. Surprise them when you pull it apart, plug it into the computer and they can see up to six hours of recorded video with audio.

At work or at home if you suspect money or other items have been stolen no-one will suspect that the pen left lying on the cupboard is actually recording every move they make as well as recording their voice.

* Wireless Portable Baby Monitor

With this handy gadget you can monitor your baby while he/she sleeps whether you’re at home or out. The baby monitor has a voice control function and a display screen so you can know that your baby is breathing normally from as far away as 100m. A small investment for someone so special.

*Car GPS Navigation System

These devices come in a variety of prices depending on the size of the screen you require. They come with a 2GB memory card for maps of anywhere in the world and in any language. They also have audio play MP3, WMA and MP4. Now there’s no more getting lost while travelling away from home.

* Plasma and LCD Televisions.

Televisions have come a long way since the old black and white box of the 1950’s. It’s not just about price and size. Now the big question is: Will we buy plasma or LCD?

When buying a larger TV (over 50") stores would normally advise you to buy a plasma which has better picture quality. For a smaller flat-screen TV (17"-42") LCD is better for picture quality and uses less power than a plasma. Both plasma and LCD have about the same life span.

From the time we are awake until the time we go to bed we have turned on, monitored, recorded, played back, downloaded, plugged in and switched off all the buttons in our high tech world of electronics.
